• “Lovin On Me” – Sean Momberger did the original production. He took the hook from R&B singer Cadillac Dale’s 1995 song “Whatever (Bass Soliloquy)” and added some beats with the help of co-producer Oz
• “Born to Die” is described by Lana Del Ray as a “homage to true love and a tribute to living life on the wild side.” To quote Chelsea Hodson from New York Times, “In [Lana’s] melancholy world, to love is to live, so to love the wrong person is to be “born to die.” It is the opening track from her studio album of the same name, released as the second single from the LP.
• “Seven Devils” uses medieval demons as a metaphor for Florence’s rage against a wrongdoer. In a Track-By-Track interview given after the release of the album, Ceremonials, Florence indicates that “Seven Devils” was originally inspired by narrative from a Chester Himes book, titled If He Hollers Let Him Go where the protagonist awakens one morning and states: “I woke up with seven devils inside me…” – “Seven Devils” scores the final moments and end credits of the True Detective series 4 episode 2. The song was also used in HBO’s Game of Thrones season 2 promotions. The beat, the instrumental for “Renee” by the Lost Boyz, Samples both “Was Dog a Doughnut?” by Cat Stevens, and the Janet Jackson song “Funny How Time Flies (When You’re Having Fun)”.
• “Ali Bomaye” features fellow rappers 2 Chainz and Rick Ross, and Samples “Seven Devils” by Florence and the Machine
• “Kill Bill” was inspired by the exploitation films that played in the cheap US movie theaters in the 1970s, including Martial Arts film, Samurai Cinema, Blaxploitation films and Spaghetti Westerns. It particularly pays homage to the Shaw Brothers Studio, known for its martial arts films, with the inclusion of the ShawScope logo in the opening titles and the “crashing zoom”, a fast zoom usually ending in a close-up commonly used in Shaw Brothers films. The Guardian wrote that Kill Bill‘s plot shares similarities with the 1973 Japanese film “Lady Snowblood”, in which a woman kills off the gang who murdered her family, and the plot also resembles the 1968 French film “The Bride Wore Black”, in which a bride seeks revenge on five gang members and strikes them off a list as she kills them.
