TBryanPhotography 2026 – London Architecture Photography 02

The City to Westminster – A 3-Hour Beginners Photography Workshop

Sunday | 10:00am–1:00pm
Meeting point: Moorgate, London
Level: Complete Beginners

Learn Photography While Exploring London’s Architecture

Join us for a relaxed, practical three-hour photography workshop designed specifically for complete beginners.

Rather than sitting in a classroom learning photography theory, you will learn by actually taking photographs as we explore some of London’s most fascinating architecture.

Starting in Moorgate, we will make our way through Liverpool Street, Holborn and Trafalgar Square before finishing in Westminster. Along the way, you will learn the fundamentals of photography and immediately put each technique into practice.

You do not need previous photography experience. You do not need to understand manual camera settings, and you do not need expensive equipment.

A DSLR, mirrorless camera, compact camera or smartphone is perfectly suitable.

The emphasis is on making photography simple, enjoyable and practical.

What You Will Learn

During the three hours, you will be introduced to the essential foundations of photography, including:

  • Understanding your camera
  • How to hold and operate your camera confidently
  • Focus and autofocus
  • Aperture
  • Shutter speed
  • ISO
  • Exposure
  • Focal length and zoom
  • Composition
  • Leading lines
  • Symmetry
  • Perspective
  • Photographing tall buildings
  • Using reflections
  • Finding interesting architectural details
  • Using people to give buildings a sense of scale

You won’t simply be told what these things mean—we will use them while taking photographs around London.

What Should Beginners Bring?

You don’t need expensive equipment.

Bring:

  • DSLR, mirrorless or compact camera
  • Or a smartphone
  • Fully charged battery
  • Spare battery if available
  • Memory card with plenty of space
  • Comfortable walking shoes
  • Weather-appropriate clothing
  • Water

A tripod is not required.

Who Is This Workshop For?

This course is specifically designed for people who are new to photography.

It is particularly suitable if:

  • You’ve just bought your first camera
  • You have a camera but don’t understand the settings
  • You normally use your camera on automatic
  • You want to learn how to compose better photographs
  • You enjoy taking photographs with your phone
  • You want to understand aperture, shutter speed and ISO
  • You want practical rather than classroom-based tuition
  • You want to explore London while learning photography

There is no expectation of previous photographic knowledge.

What Makes This Different?

This isn’t simply a guided walk around London’s landmarks.

It is a small-group practical photography class conducted in the streets of London.

You will learn a technique, immediately practise it, receive guidance from the instructor and then move on to the next photographic challenge.

The three-hour format also gives complete beginners considerably more time to:

  • Ask questions
  • Experiment
  • Make mistakes
  • Try again
  • Become comfortable with their camera
  • Develop confidence

By the end of the workshop, participants should have a much clearer understanding of the fundamentals of photography and, most importantly, a practical method for creating better photographs.

The City to Westminster

Three hours. Five distinct London environments. One practical introduction to photography.

From the modern architecture of Moorgate and Liverpool Street, through historic Holborn, the monumental surroundings of Trafalgar Square, and finally to Westminster, participants will learn to see London’s architecture from a photographer’s perspective.

The objective isn’t simply to go home with photographs of famous London buildings.

It is to teach beginners how to make better photographs wherever they go.
