π London Golden Hour to Blue Hour
An Evening Photography Workshop for Intermediate Photographers
Duration: 2 hours
Level: Intermediate
Suggested day: Saturday evening
Route: London Bridge β More London β Tower Bridge β Thames β Millennium Bridge β St Paul’s
Theme: Golden hour β sunset β blue hour β city lights
This is not a beginner camera course.
Participants should already be comfortable with:
- ApertureΒ
- Shutter speedΒ
- ISOΒ
- Exposure compensationΒ
- FocusingΒ
- Basic compositionΒ
- Changing focal lengthsΒ
The class is about using those skills creatively as the light changes.
The fundamental lesson is:
The city changes dramatically over the course of an evening β and your photography should change with it.
Timetable
The exact start time should be adjusted seasonally so that the class begins approximately 45β60 minutes before sunset.
For a summer evening, for example, the class might run approximately 7:15pmβ9:15pm. In autumn and winter, the start would need to be considerably earlier.
That seasonal flexibility is important if the objective is genuinely to capture both golden and blue hour.

Optional: 70β200mm or similar telephoto
Tripod: Recommended but not essential
Remote shutter release: Optional
Spare battery: Recommended
A tripod becomes particularly useful once the class reaches blue hour and longer exposures, although good modern cameras can produce excellent results handheld at twilight.
A specialist evening photography experience, rather than another London architecture walk.

π FROM GOLDEN HOUR TO CITY LIGHTS
London can look completely different over the course of a single evening.

π°οΈ TIMING MATTERS
The exact start time will change depending on the season.
The workshop will begin approximately 45β60 minutes before sunset, allowing us to photograph the changing light rather than simply arriving after dark.
That means a summer session may begin around 7:15pm, while autumn and winter sessions will start considerably earlier.

π 24β70mm or similar general-purpose zoom recommended
π Optional telephoto lens
